Why The American Flag is Folded Into a Triangle

Don’t expect them to have a clue, but the NFL protesters were just shamed by a patriot who understands the sacrifices that have been made under our nation’s flag.

Pampered, self-centered multimillionaire football players became heroic figures to many on the Left by taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem, but their actions served to alienate millions, and ratings are still dropping despite the playoffs.

One man who just put them all to shame is former senator Bob Dole, who despite being confined to a wheelchair at the age of 94, still stood up to pay tribute to our veterans during a ceremony where he was honored with the Congressional Gold Medal.

Dole is a World War II veteran and a man who was badly wounded in Italy, where he fought the Nazis along with many who never made it back. He then endured a slow and painful recovery to once again serve his country as a United States Senator and made it to the position of Republican Majority Leader.

Despite his age and confinement to the wheelchair, Dole was undeterred in honoring America and the military, and with President Trump and Vice President Pence beside him, so stood former Army second lieutenant Robert Dole. It was truly inspirational.

Via the Daily Caller, “WWII Vet Bob Dole Is Wheelchair Bound — But That Didn’t Stop Him When The Anthem Played”:

Bob Dole was honored at the US Capitol today, and he sent the NFL a message.

The World War II veteran, Senator and former presidential candidate received the Congressional Gold Medal in a ceremony that included Republican and Democrat leadership, the President and the Vice President.

The former Kansas Senator was honored for being particularly instrumental in the commissioning of the World War II Veterans Memorial.

Dole, who is 94 years old, can no longer walk and remained in his wheelchair for the majority of the ceremony. However, when the color guard walked in carrying the American flag and the flags of the Armed Forces, Dole can be seen on camera waving for an aide. A young man jumped up and helped pull Dole upright, so that he could be standing during the honoring of the American flag.

A Fox News story on the ceremony provided details on Dole’s WW II service:

After graduating from officer school, Dole was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, according to the Robert J. Dole Institute for Politics at the University of Kansas, a nonpartisan institute at the University that’s more commonly known as the Dole Institute.

In the spring of 1945, Dole’s life and physical mobility would be changed forever when he was critically injured during a mission against German soldiers in Northern Italy. The goal of the mission, which Dole helped to lead, was to overtake a hill near the Apennine Mountains.

But the hill was located “across a mine-laden field covered by snipers in the hills above and machine gunners in a stone farmhouse on the right,” according to the Dole Institute. While crossing the field, Dole was hit by exploding shrapnel. He was permanently crippled as a result.

Dole has tried to hide his disability over the years, using shoulder pads in his T-shirts, suits and coats to hide his nearly-missing right shoulder, according to a New York Times article from 1996. In addition to his spinal injuries, Dole cannot use his right hand and his left hand is partially numb.

“If I rub my fingers together, it’s like rubbing sandpaper,” he recalled during the 1996 interview. “I’ve lost the sensory — and that’s from the spinal injuries.”

For his service, Dole received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

In a sad period of our history, where honoring the country is scorned by many who haven’t a clue about duty, honor, or sacrifice, it is a man like Bob Dole who provides an inspiration to all.

He exemplifies the finest that America has to offer and all that we stand for.
